     Bill is widely recognized as one of the premier trial lawyers in the State of Oregon. In 1983, the first edition of The Best Lawyers in America was published selecting approximately 2000 attorneys throughout the United States as the "best lawyers in America" based upon interviews with their colleagues and judges. Under the section for Civil Litigation, Bill was selected as one of eight trial attorneys in the State of Oregon to be listed in the publication. He was the only attorney listed outside the Portland area, and one of only four defense attorneys included in the publication. Since the 1983 edition, Bill has been listed in every subsequent edition, including the 2003-04 edition, in which the letter of notification pointed out,
     "[Y]ou are one of only 1889 lawyers who have been listed in Best Lawyers throughout the twenty years since we first published in 1983."

ACTIVITIES

      Bill is past President of the Oregon State Bar. He is currently a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, International Association of Defense Counsel, Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and has had an "A" rating from Martindale-Hubbell for 30 years.
