      Elizabeth has served over 10 years active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard, and is currently a Coast Guard Reservist. During her tenure with the Coast Guard, she first gained experience as Chief, Marine Environmental Response in Honolulu , Hawaii . She worked on the team that responded to a 10,000 gallon oil spill that fouled Pearl Harbor and closed the Arizona Memorial for several days. After that, she served as a Marine Casualty Investigator in Seattle , Washington . Elizabeth  investigated the causes of various commercial marine casualties and prosecuted mariners for misconduct before an Administrative Law Judge. In the aftermath of September 11, she worked as an active duty Judge Advocate General (JAG) under Rear Admiral Thad Allen. Elizabeth worked on a multi-agency team that implemented nationwide regulations for the protection of Naval vessels. After becoming a reservist, she was recalled to Portland , Oregon for one year to implement the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA). Her group worked closely with commercial facilities and commercial vessels in Southwestern Washington and throughout Oregon ensuring regulatory compliance within required time lines.
